I finally found time to sew.! Heres what I've done.

These are the only thing I've had time to sew in the entire month  in a half between work and Christmas. They were a gift for my brother so I couldn't  post them until after Chritstmas. I made two the same for his sofa. I made the pattern after we bought the fabric. The trick is finding fabric for men.

Harvest Pumpkins

Moms pumpkin

I have finished, My pumpkins! After becoming frustrated, with not having a fall center piece for my table and not liking what I'd seen in the stores. I was hit by the idea of pumpkins in three sizes.  I scanned the net, there were many cute ideas out there but none were what I was wanting.  So onto my own devices and off to Joannes! Where 40% off sale always helps a project get started.
I used my Tupperware lids to get the sizes I wanted and drew out the moon like  shapes, cut pairs of nine different fabrics to form each pumpkin and then drew and cut several stems before finding the shape I liked, I drew out the leaves in a fairly crude shape and sewed them pipe wire into them to give the more realistic look and I could not resist making the little piece of vine.
I had so much fun making these they actually sew up really fast. I was blown away at how much stuffing it took to stuff them. The one thing I learned is the little one is going to be the the only one I do in that size it was a BRAT to make.  Not worth the effort for the tiny size.
My original plan was three for my table, yes you count four in the photo. My mom fell in love with the pumpkins So I made her one too.

Stockings for Soliders!

Stocking for  Soldiers serving in Afganastan! This is just a few of what was made by my moms sewing group.  They were kind enough to invite me to join the on there sewing day. I was rather excited by the gesture to join in and make a few stockings. As a group we made twenty and then several ladies were going to make more. If I remember correctly my mom said, her last count was 18! They all go to an organization that fills them and sends them to Soldiers. This bunch is supporting men based out of  Fort Lewis, Wa.

Reversible Tablerunner

Making progress on my table runner. This is the center section, which I'm getting ready to attach the center sashings that hold the squares together. I am sewing both sides on at the same time, this will join the two sections and then I have some hand sewing to do.

Speaking of hand stitching there is no better  place then the local coffee shop!!!! I sat and relaxed with my coffee.  It was really fun the one employee stopped and asked my questions about my project and  gave me a compliment.  It was nice to get a compliment but even nicer to be able to share with someone about my sewing.  I love to share about what I'm doing and see the amazement of people. Hopefully I can encourage someone to try it themselves.

Side one is Winter season and Side two is Fall
I love this pattern it is so fun and fast, you sew both sides and the same time and the quilting gets done as you go. The new technique for me this time is the two sided binding. in the past I have avoid it by binding both side with the same fabric which is just as cute, but now that I have made the two side binding I will probably do it again.  If  you would like more information on the double side quilting I have found this book("Reversible quilts two at a time" by Sharon Pederson to be very  to be the best.

It's been great, hope to see some of you around!

These are two photos I thought it would be fun to share. The quilt in the rocking chair is the very first I ever made, the sleeping bundle of joy is now seven gee she saw so sweet when she slept.  The burgandy and purple quilt is one I did you my mom with all the grand kids.

Thank you everyone

I have actually opened and looked at every link in the festival, short of any last minute entries. I just thought it would be nice to say thank you to those who participated. It has been fun to look through all the site and see the quilts. I love to see how different everyone sees color and how it speaks to them.  Last but not least Thank you Amy!!! I always knew you were destined for greatness!

Fall Quilt Festival

The Generations of quilting
This is a quilt My mother made for my daughter.  My daughter calls it her summer quilt, she has a heavier one for winter. So we have name the pattern "Summer quilt".  My mother sewed this quilt on her Singer Feather Weight, and it is hand quilted. It believe this may be one of the last, she quilts this way due to arthritis and carpel tunnel. We love grandma for her wonderful choice of colors and pattern. This quilt was made to fit all the way down the edge of my daughters bed, thanks to this the quilt will most likely fit a double bed and grow up with her.
My mother  learned to sew from her mother and my great grandmother. They both quilted and sewed clothing. We have had at least 5 generations in a row  that not only could sew but quilt. My mother has some of the quilts and I hope to get them photographed for spring festival. My daughter as she learns will be the 6 Th generation. Even my son had dabble at the machine so maybe there hope for him yet! I'll be happy if he can mend or hem for himself.

This is my quilt. It is a shrunken down version of the Card Trick pattern. I like this smaller block for baby quilts and youth  blankets. This is one of my favorite quilts I have made, unfortunately it had to go to it's home with the baby it was made for.  At one point I was making baby quilts for every coworker that had a baby in my husbands office.  They became quite popular. When we moved I did not start it again, for it became to expensive.
   Sneak a peek at the back, and you might see some of my hand quilting.
The youngest generation is  7  and learning to sew.!!! yea!!!
This quilt was sewn by my 7 year old daughter at a tractor show this summer with grandma and grandpa. The cool this is it was sewn on a old antique Hand Crank sewing machine! I have been informed that she sewed all the strips into squares. Grandma in order to save time sewed the batting and back on. She did such a good job that the squares didn't even need  straighting. Needless to say I have a very proud little girl!  I guess my buying her a Janome for her 6Th birthday wasn't a bad idea.  Its the Hello Kitty model! Aren't you all jealous! :o)

                                         ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sept. 8th
I'm kinda excited. I am going to a sewing class, I dont really think you learn much other than new pattern ideas from what I understand but it sound like a nice way to meet other ladies. We are supposed to be making a pot holder. All I know it that I need 5  8 or 9 inch squares. I am curious to see that were doing. I'll post it when I'm done. I hope its cute.
Clean Machine
I thought  I'd take a few minutes to sew today, went into get my sewing machine out of the bedroom where I'd stored it in a hurry the other day to discover it had been barfed on! YUCK!!!!
Narrowing down the guilty party is easy now with only one cat. But why!! She didn't get the top or the sewing arm but the part just under neither that's hard to clean!  Silly cat. So now I have a nice clean sewing machine. Why do cats love sewing so....
This is the quilty party!!!!
Pretty light now!
This is our three dollar light fixture! It was Gold, and so ugly it stood out like a sore thumb. I spotted one similar in Lowe's and decided it looked good. One thing led to another and I bought Spray paint and this is what we get! So much better it just fits into the room now without making itself the center of attention.
Kitchen face lift is done!
These are the colors I painted, however they refuse to photographic well.  this corner is the best I can get. The lighter color is Apple Cider and the darker color is Antiquarian Brass. They make for a nice warm feeling kitchen without being bright or to yellowy.
The wall and kitchen are not as yellow as this photo.  This photo is the new light we hung, and the new blinds I hung. They were a pain to hang! But I won! They are a wood look alike blinds, they block the light great and look very kitchen like.  Its not a new kitchen but it's definately nice to give the kitchen new life.
Bathroom Valance
I learned how to make the triangles without cutting each and everyone!
  I have also learn that magazine patterns are very confusing in there directions, so don't cut your pattern pieces when you have a headache. I had to go back and cut more of some pieces and not enough of others.  But I am so very happy with how it turned out. I am also very excited about the cutting triangles out of squares. Now I want to try some more things with this technique.
New neighbor!
Is it wrong to want to eat the neighbors?
*RIP*
Rest in peace, We will miss you Nemo, " you were a great cat and family member."  We lost our cat of 8 years.  He was 20 lb, and 11 years old, a lover that was all purr.  You could hold him for hours, he took many secrets to the grave with him he would listen anytime. He was a great cat. We thank God for allowing us the honnor of being his owners.  We miss you Nemo.
New sleeve arm cover
This is the new sleeve arm cover I made for the sleeve arm. It just slides right over! Not to bad for made of all scraps, I love scraps. The mystery is why in the world did someone take the other cover off. When we moved in the cover was gone altogether. But this is the best I'm so happy with myself.! How childish am I. As I jump up a down and scream look at what I did like it's a master piece.
Feeling petrified, this Fabric is scaring me!!!!!!
Petrified to cut my sashing and backing fabric.!!!!!! This is crazy I have done the math for the last time, is it all drawn out on paper now, I just have to cross my fingers that I cut it correctly. Or I will run out of irreplaceable fabric, which is probably what is getting to me. Wish me luck!!!
Lowest tide of the summer!
The Great Blue Heron
Indianola Dock
This rock was surrounded by tons of sea enemies. Poking them was fun, they were real squirter.
The red sea creature was turning inside to protect themselves from the sun. Sometimes you could see there tentacles
This  one really wanted the water. it was streching to all its might to get to water.
Today was the lowest tide of the summer -4.1  We had nice weather to boot. Warm enough to get wet but not so warm to over heat and burn.  We choose to go to a beach that had lots of rocks next to a beach with sand. We walked the rocks and turned over some to learn about the sea life and walked my kids to the sandy beach to play in the warmed sand as the tide started to come in. They had a blast. My daughter held a sea star and I chased my 13 year old with it. He was being a chicken. It was all in good fun.
What a great way to start our summer in a new state. We successfully wore out the youngest, a bath and a snack and she was out for the count. Oops, She not going to want to go to bed. Oh well. Its summer.
